Blue Marlin World Cup Championship Glory, Lived Firsthand
A look at the World Cup Blue Marlin Championship and why our broker’s podium finish aboard BREE reflects the real sportfishing culture of our brokerage.
At our brokerage, sportfishing is more than a category on a listing sheet—it is part of who we are. We do not just represent these boats from behind a desk. We spend time offshore, in the cockpit, and alongside the crews and owners who make this lifestyle so special. That is why this year’s World Cup Blue Marlin Championship meant so much to our team.
On July 4th, one of the most unique and respected tournaments in big game fishing brought together teams from around the world for a true test of skill, timing, and determination. We were especially proud to see our very own broker, Drew Castle, competing aboard BREE with Captain Kyle Laine and the rest of the crew in Bermuda. Their result: an outstanding 3rd place finish with a 617-pound blue marlin.
That kind of performance is not only impressive—it speaks directly to the culture of our brokerage. Our brokers are not just sales professionals. They are anglers, captains, and competitors who understand these vessels from firsthand experience.
What Is the World Cup Blue Marlin Championship?
The World Cup Blue Marlin Championship is one of the most distinctive tournaments in the sportfishing world. Its format is what sets it apart:
One day only
One species only: blue marlin
One winner only
Unlike traditional tournaments held in a single location, the World Cup allows teams to fish anywhere in the world for 8 hours in their local time zone. That means boats in famous marlin destinations across the globe can compete on the same day under the same simple objective: catch the heaviest qualifying blue marlin.
It is a pure competition with no room for consolation. That all-or-nothing structure is part of what gives the event its legendary status in big game fishing.
Why This Tournament Matters
For anglers and sportfishing enthusiasts, the World Cup is not just another date on the calendar. It is a globally recognized showcase of preparation, teamwork, and offshore skill. Every crew has a single shot. Every decision counts—from reading water conditions and choosing where to fish, to executing flawlessly when a fish finally comes up in the spread.
Because teams can fish from different parts of the world, the championship also highlights the international nature of blue marlin sportfishing. It brings together elite crews, top-tier sportfishing yachts, and serious competition in a format that is both simple and unforgiving.
That is exactly what makes a podium finish so meaningful. To place among the top teams in an event like this requires more than luck. It takes experience, discipline, and a deep understanding of the sport.
BREE Delivers in Bermuda
This year, during the July 4th tournament, the team aboard BREE delivered a remarkable performance in Bermuda. With Captain Kyle Laine, our broker Drew Castle, and the full crew working together, BREE landed a 617-pound blue marlin good for an impressive 3rd place finish.
In a tournament known for its intensity and winner-take-all format, reaching the top of the leaderboard is an achievement worth celebrating. Bermuda has long been regarded as a premier blue marlin fishery, but success there is never guaranteed. It takes local knowledge, sharp instincts, and a team that can perform when the opportunity comes.
We could not be more proud of Drew and the entire BREE crew for their stellar showing.
More Than Brokerage—A Real Offshore Culture
What makes this result especially meaningful for us is what it represents. At many firms, a broker may know a yacht from a spec sheet or a sea trial. At our brokerage, that knowledge runs deeper.
Our team includes people who have spent real time on these boats and in this world. They understand the details that matter because they have lived them. How a cockpit functions under pressure, what owners and crews need offshore, and how a sportfisher should perform when the stakes are high.
When Drew Castle talks about a sportfishing yacht, he is not speaking in theory. He is speaking from experience. He has competed, worked with crews, and been part of the action that defines this lifestyle. That perspective is invaluable for clients looking to buy, sell, or charter the right vessel.
It also reflects the culture we are proud to build: one rooted in authenticity, passion, and firsthand understanding.
A Championship That Reflects the Spirit of Sportfishing
The World Cup Blue Marlin Championship captures everything people love about big game fishing—global competition, elite crews, high stakes, and the pursuit of a single extraordinary fish. It is exciting, demanding, and deeply respected throughout the sportfishing community.
For us, this year’s event was also a reminder of who we are as a company. We are not just brokers. We live this lifestyle. We celebrate the boats, the people, and the experiences that make offshore sportfishing so compelling. Seeing one of our own on the leaderboard at one of the world’s most iconic marlin tournaments is a perfect example of that commitment.
Congratulations again to Captain Kyle Laine, Drew Castle, and the entire crew aboard BREE on an exceptional performance at the Marlin World Cup. A 617-pound blue marlin and a 3rd place finish is an accomplishment to be proud of—and one that perfectly reflects the passion and experience at the heart of our brokerage.
